A man was charged with aggravated animal cruelty for killing and eating two of his pet peacocks, the Pasco sheriff said in an arrest report.
HUDSON, FL — A Hudson man was arrested Sept. 23 after killing two of his pet peacocks and eating them after an argument with a neighbor, according to an arrest affidavit from the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.
Craig Vogt, 61, was charged with aggravated animal cruelty, a felony.
The neighbor told deputies that Vogt put a letter in her mailbox telling her that he killed the peacocks because she kept feeding them, the affidavit said.

He said that he put the letter in her mailbox “to prove a point that he will continue to kill his pet peacocks if she continues to feed them,” according to deputies.
Vogt also admitted to killing two birds by cutting their neck with a knife “out of spite” before letting them bleed out and cooking them in a frying pan, the affidavit said.

While being taken to jail, he told deputies that when he was released he planned to kill all of his peacocks to prevent anyone from taking them from him, authorities said.
