Pedestrian Killed in Crash on U.S. 19

The man walked in front of an oncoming vehicle, police say

A 45-year-old man walking across U.S. 19 near Bridge Road in New Port Richey was struck and killed by a vehicle late Thursday night, the New Port Richey Police report.

The man walked east across 19 as a tan 1996 Buick driven by Spring Hill resident William Heissenberg, 51, traveled north on the road.

The preliminary investigation shows the man crossed in front of the Buick, violating Heissenberg’s right of way, and was struck by the front of the vehicle.

The pedestrian died at the scene. The police, who received the call about the incident at 10:25 p.m. Thursday, are not releasing his name as they have not notified his next of kin. The incident is under investigation.
