Student Accused of Bringing BB Gun to Bayonet Point Middle School

School was locked down for two hours on Tuesday.

A student at was accused of bringing a BB gun to campus on Tuesday, April 5, triggering a school lockdown that lasted two hours, Pasco County Sheriff's deputies say. 

The student, a 14-year-old, was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school property and disruption of a school function.

Another student reported the teenager, whose name is being withheld by Patch due to his age, had a gun mid-day on Tuesday, deputies say,  and the school was immediately locked down. Deputies searched the 14-year-old and his backpack and found a BB gun magazine and a .40 caliber bullet.

The student first told deputies that he gave the BB gun to a high school student before school, and it was no longer on campus. Another student said he saw the accused with a gun that morning.  Deputies were eventually told the student hid the gun under a portable classroom.  They found it, and, after being read his Miranda Rights, the student admitted he had brought the gun to school and hidden it.
