Tampa Bay Evacuations Expand Ahead Of Hurricane Milton’s Hit To FL

Evacuation orders are in effect throughout the Tampa Bay area as Category 5 Hurricane Milton tears across the Gulf towards Florida.

FLORIDA — As Hurricane Milton, which is projected to hit Florida’s west coast mid week, tears across the Gulf of Mexico, evacuation orders are already being issued in the greater Tampa Bay area.

Here’s a look at who is ordered to evacuate, county by county:

Hillsborough County

Those living in Zones A and B, as well as those living in mobile and manufactured homes in all zones, are under a mandatory evacuation notice starting Monday at 2 p.m.

The following shelters will open to those evacuating:

  • Burnett Middle School (general population, pet friendly), 1010 N. Kingsway Road, Seffner
  • Durant High School (general population, pet friendly), 4748 Cougar Path, Plant City
  • Erwin Technical College (special needs only, pet friendly), 2010 E. Hillsborough Ave., Tampa
  • Middleton High School (general population, pet friendly), 4801 N. 22nd Street, Tampa
  • Pizzo Elementary School (general population), 11701 USF Bull Run Dr., Tampa
  • Shields Middle School (general population, pet friendly), 15732 Beth Shields Way, Ruskin
  • Sickles High School (general population, pet friendly), 7950 Gunn Hwy., Tampa
  • Strawberry Crest High School (special needs only, pet friendly), 4691 Gallagher Road, Dover
  • Sumner High School (special needs only, pet friendly), 10650 County Road 672, Riverview

Manatee County

Everyone in Zones A, B, and C, as well as those in RVs or mobile homes, are ordered to evacuate. starting Monday at 2 p.m., officials said.

“We do not issue evacuation orders lightly,” Jodie Fiske, public safety director, said. “Milton is anticipated to cause more storm surge than Helene. So, if you stayed during Helene, and got lucky, I would not press my luck with this particular system.”

Emergency shelters will open Monday at 2 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Barbara A. Harvey Elementary School, 8610 115th Ave. E., Parrish
  • B.D. Gullett Elementary School, 12125 44th Ave. E., Bradenton
  • Dr. Mona Jain Middle School, 12205 44th Ave. E., Bradenton
  • Gilbert W. McNeal Elementary School, 6325 Lorraine Road, Lakewood Ranch
  • Jessie P. Miller Elementary School, 601 43rd St. W., Bradenton
  • Myakka Elementary School, 37205 Manatee Ave., Myakka City
  • Virgil Mills Elementary School, 7200 69th St. E., Palmetto
  • W.D. Sugg Middle School, 5602 38th Ave. W., Bradenton

A special needs shelter will also be available for those who have pre-registered at mymanatee.org/needs.

Pasco County

Mandatory evacuations are in effect for Zones A and B, well as for those in low-lying areas prone to flooding or those living in a manufactured home, mobile home or RVs, officials said.

Voluntary evacuations are in effect for those in Zone C and those registered with the county as a special needs resident.

Evacuation shelters are opening Monday at noon at the following locations:

  • Centennial Middle School, 38505 Centennial Road, Dade City
  • Fivay High School, 12115 Chicago Avenue, Hudson
  • River Ridge Middle and High Schools, 11646 Town Center Road, New Port Richey
  • Wesley Chapel High School, 30651 Wells Avenue, Wesley Chapel

Pinellas County

A mandatory evacuation is in place for all residents in Zones A, B, and C, as well as those living in mobile homes.

Shelters opened Monday at noon at the following locations:

  • Largo High School (general population and pet friendly), 410 Missouri Ave. N., Largo
  • Gibbs High School (general population and pet friendly), 850 34th Street S. St. Petersburg
  • Palm Harbor University High School (general population and pet friendly), 1900 Omaha Street, Palm Harbor
  • Palm Harbor University High School Building 19 (special needs), 1900 Omaha Street, Palm Harbor
  • Dunedin Highland Middle School (special needs), 70 Patricia Ave., Dunedin
  • Oak Grove Middle School (special needs), 1370 S. Belcher Road, Clearwater

Sarasota County

An evacuation order is in place for Zones A and B, manufactured communities or a mobile or boat home.

“Those living in level C should be prepared to evacuate if the storm intensifies,” officials said.

The following evacuation centers will open Tuesday at 10 a.m.:

  • Atwater Elementary School (general population, pet friendly), 4701 Huntsville Ave., North Port
  • Booker High School (general population, pet friendly), 3201 Orange Ave., Sarasota
  • Brookside Middle School (general population, pet friendly), 3636 South Shade Ave., Sarasota
  • Fruitville Elementary School (general population, pet friendly), 601 Honore Ave., Sarasota
  • Gulf Gate Elementary School (general population, pet friendly), 6500 S. Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota
  • Heron Creek Middle School (general population, pet friendly), 6501 W. Price Blvd., North Port
  • North Port High School (general population, pet friendly), 6400 West Price Blvd., North Port
  • Phillippi Shores Elementary School (general population, pet friendly), 4747 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota
  • Riverview High School (general population, pet friendly), 1 Ram Way, Sarasota
  • Southside Elementary School (general population, pet friendly), 1901 Webber Street, Sarasota
  • Taylor Ranch Elementary School (general population, pet friendly), 2500 Taylor Ranch Trail, Venice
