Truck Driver Rescued From Floodwaters As FL River Rises: Officials

After Hurricane Milton, Hernando County continues to see historic flooding along the Withlacoochee River on Thursday, fire officials said.

HERNANDO COUNTY, FL — A man was rescued from a pick-up truck submerged in floodwaters Wednesday afternoon, Hernando County Fire Rescue wrote in a Facebook post.

He drove around barricades and tried to make his way through the water.

HCFR responded with an airboat and was able to rescue the driver, who wasn’t injured.

In the wake of Hurricane Milton, the county continues to see historic flooding near and along the Withlacoochee River on Thursday, the agency said.

Residents are encouraged to leave the area and get to higher ground. Many roads are flooded and closed, HCFR said.

“Do not drive through floodwaters. If you are in danger, call 911," the agency said.

An emergency road has been built so residents can evacuate the River Heights subdivision.

A pet-friendly shelter is also open at the Enrichment Center, 800 John Gary Grubbs Blvd., Brooksville.
