Woman Stabbed Boyfriend Above The Heart: Cops
A woman found bloody outside a New Port Richey motel faces attempted murder charges after police say she stabbed her boyfriend.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — An argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend took a violent turn Wednesday night when New Port Richey Police say the woman picked up a knife and stabbed the man above his heart.
Police were called to the Royal Palm Inn, 6523 U.S. 19, around 11:52 p.m. in reference to a stabbing. The first officers on the scene say they found the male victim on the ground near the hotel’s front office. The man had “a stab wound in his chest right above his heart,” a Thursday morning email from the police department said.
Officers say they found a witness and the man’s girlfriend standing outside one of the rooms. The girlfriend, the email said, “had blood on her hands, arms, face and clothing.”

After a search waiver was signed, the room was searched. Police say they found a bloody knife on the floor. The girlfriend reportedly refused to answer questions or make statements. As an officer was interviewing a witness, the girlfriend is accused of spitting in the officer’s face.

Police say the injured man, who is not being identified, told them Paula Brandt, 26, is his “live-in girlfriend and the one who stabbed him,” the email said. A witness also confirmed the victim’s statement, the police department said.
The victim was taken as a trauma alert to a local hospital. He was last listed in serious, but stable condition after having suffered a collapsed lung, the police department said.
Brandt was charged with attempted murder and battery on a law enforcement officer.
No further information is being released at this time. It is unclear what the two were arguing about.
