Young Voter Tired of 2-Party System

This is the first year 18-year-old Charles Weis was able to legally vote for president.

His mother dropped him off at the Finnish-American Club in New Port Richey Tuesday morning and snapped his photo at the  “Vote here" sign.  

Then, Weis walked inside the precinct 60 polling place and cast a ballot.

Did he vote for Democrat Barack Obama to keep his job as president? Or did he cast a ballot for Republican contender Mitt Romney?

The answer is: Neither.     

Weis said he cast his vote for Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate for president.

“I’m tired of the two-party system,” he said. “I don’t believe in voting for the lesser of two evils.”

He also likes Stein’s emphasis on climate change.

Weis, a part-time student at Pasco-Hernando Community College, wanted to make sure he voted in this election and was “excited” he was able to cast a ballot. This is his first year voting.

“There’s too many people who don’t get the chance or don’t care,” he said.

On the power of youth voters, Weis said: “The youth population is large enough that we can actually influence an election.”
