Commute Downtown? Pay for Street Parking With Mobile App

The City of Tampa rolled out "Parkmobile" this week.

If you're headed downtown to shop, eat or handle business at City Hall, a new option to pay for street parking is now available.

Street parkers can use "Parkmobile," a service that provides customers with three ways to pay for parking in the City of Tampa: a mobile application; the Internet; or by calling toll free to pay for parking on the street.

Parkmobile is already in place in St. Pete Beach, where beachgoers can use the mobile app to pay for metered parking, according to Pinellas Beaches Patch.

"The goal is to offer residents and visitors a simple, online or mobile payment option," said Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn in a news release. "The fact that Parkmobile is already available in other cities in our area makes it that much more convenient for our customers. This is one more step we are taking to make Tampa a more tech-savvy, accessible city."

Users can register for free at www.parkmobile.com and download a mobile application for smartphones. A $0.35 convenience fee is charged per transaction, but the fee will be waived until Sept. 30.

The service also allows for text message alerts and reminders 15 minutes before a parking sessions expires.

The option to pay by cash or credit card for street parking at a solar-powered kiosk will still be available while city officials expand the Parkmobile service throughout all city garages and lots.
