Domestic Dispute Ends in Attempted Murder Charges

Diana Louise Matthews of Wesley Chapel has been released by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office after posting $50,000 bond.

A 42-year-old Wesley Chapel woman faces attempted murder charges after admitting to shooting her husband multiple times during a domestic dispute, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

Diana Louise Matthews, of Arthur Drive in Wesley Chapel, was arrested June 16. Her husband was listed in critical condition with gunshots to the torso and lower groin, according to a Pasco County Sheriff’s Office report.

Matthews told authorities the pair was engaged in a heated dispute that turned physical. When she retreated from the house to retrieve a .380 Colt handgun from her vehicle, the report states, the husband followed after her and grabbed her by the hair.

That’s when Matthews shot him several times.

Authorities said Matthews was cooperative during questioning and told them she had suffered years of abuse by her husband.

She was released June 20 on $50,000 bond.
