The Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County is suspending all active and new open burn authorizations in Hillsborough County due to current weather conditions. This notice is effective immediately, today, March 4, 2022 and will run through Sunday, March 6, 2022, pursuant to the current open burning restrictions memorandum issued by the Florida Forest Service, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and elevated EPC air quality data. Air quality data shows elevated dust levels due to fires in Central and South America. If there is the potential for unfavorable weather conditions to persist, this suspension may be extended. Following the end of the suspension dates above, all businesses with active authorizations must continue to contact the Florida Forest Service, 863-940-6701, prior to intended start-up to notify them of their intentions to burn and to check for any restrictions or suspensions that may remain in effect. If you have any questions regarding this notice or need additional information, please contact: The Environmental Protection Commission, Air Management Division, Melverine Cummings at (813) 627-2600 x1261.
