The New Tampa Players will host their production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, The Sound of Music, at Crosspointe Church of the Nazarene, 919 Debuel Road, Lutz. Shows take place Friday, Aug. 23 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 24 at 2 and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $14; seniors and students pay $12; and the cost for people in a group of 10 or more is $10 per person.

Join fellow fans of the Pokemon Trading Card Game and Pokemon video games for fun at the New Tampa Regional Library each Saturday at 10 a.m. Bring your playing cards and Nintendo DS. Learn the basics of the game and perfect your gaming strategies.

Kona Multisport's New Tampa Triathlon Club hosts a group bike ride each Saturday at 7:30 a.m. at Flatwoods Wilderness Regional Park, 13330 Morris Bridge Road, Thonotosassa.
Comic book and superhero fans might want to check this one out. Tampa Bay Comic Con takes the spotlight at the Tampa Convention Center Friday, Aug. 23 through Sunday, Aug. 25. The event boasts 75,000 square feet of “comics, cosplay, videos, toys, action figures, video games” and more. Find out more about it on the event’s website.

The National Weather Service says our pattern of afternoon storms is likely to continue well into the weekend. That means beach-goers might want to hit the surf a little early. Do be careful out there. The forecasters say frequent lightning, gusty winds and heavy rains are possible throughout the Bay.
