Here are the top five stories in Orlando today:
1. Celebrate Juneteenth all weekend long in Central Florida. There are number of events planned around town, including the Inaugural City of Orlando Juneteenth Festival hosted by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Commissioner Regina Hill and Commissioner Bakari Burns, Mid-Florida Juneteenth Music Festival in Apopka, 2nd Annual Facets of Freedom: A Juneteenth Celebration at Loch Haven Park and more. 2. Orange County Comptroller Phil Diamond recommended caution with plans to spend the surging hotel tax revenues. Diamond suggested allowing depleted financial reserves to rebuild to $300 million and wait until revenues from the 6% surcharge on hotel rooms and other short-term lodgings top $300 million over a year’s time before committing the cash stream to new projects. 3. Police are searching for suspects who stole $6,000 worth of gas out of a Mobil gas station in St. Cloud. The suspects, identified as having identical, white F-250s with large tanks in the bed of their trucks, are facing felony prosecution due to the amount stolen, according to police. (WESH)

Are you an Orlando resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
