1. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill Friday that now starts the process of wiping out Disney's 55-year-old government structure, the Reedy Creek Improvement District. The measure comes after Disney strongly criticized Florida's "Don't Say Gay" law. During a news conference, however, DeSantis said that no company, including Disney, deserves preferential treatment. The removal of the structure could cost taxpayers in Orange County thousands of dollars, according to Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings. (Orlando Patch)
2. The supermarket chain Sprouts Farmers Market is preparing to open its fifth Central Florida location in Apopka. The new location will be located at 2283 E. Semoran Blvd. (Click Orlando)
3. Orange County leaders are hoping to give renters some relief by putting a measure on November's election ballot that would prevent landlords from increasing rent prices by more than five percent from year to year. Florida law does not allow for rental caps, generally, unless there’s a "grave emergency," and then the cap is only allowed for one year. (Spectrum News 13)
4. The Red Cross is working to help several people find temporary housing after their homes caught on fire in Orange County Saturday morning on Lake Fountain Drive. The Red Cross says they could be helping around 6 to 12 people and they believe one child was hurt. An investigation is underway as to the cause of the fire. (WESH)
5. The Orlando Public Library will be hosting a day-long celebration of books on Saturday, April 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its downtown location. The free event will feature authors and panelists, including a keynote address by New York Times bestselling author, Tim Dorsey – a former reporter and editor for the defunct Tampa Tribune from 1987 to 1999 and author of the Serge Storms series.
