Here are the top five stories today in Orlando:
1. A man was shot and killed Friday night in Orlando, according to police. The deadly shooting happened at the Village Park Apartments located on Lake Martin Lane in the Rosemont neighborhood, according to police. (WESH)
2. An Orange County bartender and former Applebee's manager was shocked to find out that his $5,000 lottery ticket prize was taken by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO). After an investigation it was found the DEO falsely took the money, with proof provided by his employer, and will reimburse the man who was actually laid off and receiving his rightful benefits. The refund will take a month. (Click Orlando)
3. Clermont police shot an 81-year-old man who authorities say fired a gun at officers Friday night on West Highway 50, west of U.S. 27, at around 8:15 p.m. The officer who fired his weapon has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending this investigation, police said. (WFTV)
4. The director of the cancelled Orlando Music Festival has pleaded not guilty to fraud charges in relation to another festival he organized in Texas. James Walker Watson, Jr. has been charged with federal wire fraud for allegedly making "large cash withdrawals" of funds intended for concert expenses for Southfork Music Festival in Dallas. 5. The Downtown Arts District will host a semi-formal affair called "Art After Dark" at CityArts Orlando from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, August 13. The food and drink stations will be provided by Central 28, Wicked Weed, Ivanhoe Park Brewing, Kopparberg, Iron Smoke Whiskey, Bento, The Harp & Celt Irish Pub & Restaurant, PhattyChow and Pattie Lou's Donuts. - Neptune Middle School in Osceola County and Addition Financial teamed up to makeover the classroom of teacher Tamera Forrester-Bell for the new year. Remaking classrooms has become an annual program for the financial institution. (Osceola News Gazette)
- Gary Fuchs, the first manager of Apopka's Camp Wewa, has been dismissed by the City according to a post on Fuchs' Facebook page and confirmed by the city. (The Apopka Voice)
- Two nurses at AdventHealth's TimberRidge emergency room in Ocala have filed a lawsuit against the hospital alleging they were left traumatized after the hospital held a simulated active shooter exercise, but did not inform attendees it was a drill. AdventHealth is one of the largest health providers in Central Florida. (Fox 35)
