1. Residents of a 55-plus neighborhood in Central Florida called have been awarded nearly $35 million in a civil case following a judge’s ruling that they were charged improper homeowners’ association fees. Each resident could receive up to $10,000. (Click Orlando)

2. Florida Senator Linda Stewart (D-Orlando) filed a bill Friday requiring apartment employees to undergo background screenings. The bill is inspired by and named after Miya Marcano, a 19-year-old college student believed to have been killed by apartment maintenance worker, Armando Caballero. It also strengthens the requirements regarding a person's access to individual apartment units. (WTSP)

3. Thousands of people have signed a Change.org petition calling for Governor Ron DeSantis to launch an internal investigation into North Port police over their handling of the Brian Laundrie and Gabby Petito case. Police have admitted they made mistakes during the investigation into Laundrie. (Patch Sarasota)

4. All 8 school districts that faced financial penalties from Florida because of mask mandates have now reversed course. The districts cited declining cases and efforts to get students vaccinated as the reason why. (Creative Loafing)

5. Rollins College broke ground this week on a new theater and dance center on its Winter Park campus. It will be called Tiedtke Theatre and Dance Centre and is expected to be finished by 2022. (Bungalower)
