Shaquille O'Neal 1st Player To Have Orlando Jersey Number Retired

ORLANDO — There will never be another No. 32 for the Orlando Magic after Shaquille O'Neal's former jersey number is retired in a historical move.

Alex Martins, Magic chief executive officer, gave O'Neal the news during a recent broadcast of TNT's Tip-Off that he will be the first Magic player to have his jersey number retired.

"You had a great career here at the beginning of your career, and we had some great times," Martins said. "You took us all the way to the NBA Finals, and it's finally time to put that number up in the rafters.

A retirement ceremony is planned for Tuesday, Feb. 13, the team said on Facebook Thursday before sharing game clips of O'Neal during his time with the Magic.

The team said O'Neal's jersey retirement is part of the Magic's 35th anniversary celebration.

According to his ESPN profile, O'Neal played for the Magic from 1993-96 before going to the Los Angeles Lakers. The NBA Hall of Famer has also played for the Miami Heat, the Phoenix Suns, the Cleveland Cavelier and the Boston Celtics.

The Magic reported the following stats from O'Neal: 3,208 field goals, 1,602 free throws, 1,236 offensive rebounds, 2,455 defensive rebounds and 824 blocks.

"Salue to Shaq," the Magic wrote on Facebook.
