1. Orlando residents and lung cancer survivors, Stephanie Malecki and Kathleen Skambis, spoke with their members of Congress last week during the American Lung Association LUNG FORCE Advocacy Day. They joined others to push for $49 billion in research funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), $11 billion in funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and to protect expanded access to quality, affordable healthcare. (Orlando Patch)

2. The rapper who vowed to pay for Tyre Sampson's funeral after the teen fell to his death from a drop tower ride in Orlando, was using the boy for clout and did not follow through on the promise, according to Sampson's family. The rapper, YK Osiris, whose real name is Osiris Williams, told TMZ he felt compelled to pay for the teen’s funeral, and would like to be in attendance if invited. (WFLA)

3. A number of Downtown Orlando bars lost their appeal in a case demanding payment from Orange County over lost funds during the COVID-19 shutdowns. The ownership group behind The Attic, The Basement and The Treehouse were arguing against an earlier decision by Orange County Judge John Jordan, who dismissed the case in May. The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals found that Orange County's emergency closure of bars did not constitute a taking, and therefore the group was not entitled to compensation. (Orlando Weekly)

4. The Volusia County School Board voted to immediately terminate Superintendent Dr. Scott Fritz at their regular meeting Tuesday evening. The board also voted to approve a severance package for Fritz totaling more than $186,000. (WFTV)

5. 10-year-old Neve Judelson, a Park Maitland School student in Winter Park, baked sweets for Ukraine recently. Neve held the bake sale outside her Winter Park home earlier this month and raised more than $1,300 for the Ukrainian people. The proceeds were donated to St. Mary Protectress Ukrainian Catholic Church in Apopka for food, water and medical supplies. (WESH)
