88-Year-Old Resident to Host Storytelling About Growing Up in Palm Harbor
Palm Harbor resident Charley Jones, 88, remembers what Palm Harbor was like when the area was citrus groves and there was no such thing as a shopping mall, the internet, or cell phones.

Ever wonder what it was like living in Palm Harbor "back in the day"?
Saturday afternoon, Palm Harbor resident Charley Jones, 88, who has lived in Palm Harbor for more than 80 years, will tell stories about what it was like growing up here.
Jones is often referred to as one of the founding fathers of Palm Harbor. He was one of Palm Harbor's first fire commissioners, he helped start the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club and helped build Pop Stansell Park.

He'll be telling his stories as part of the North Pinellas Historical Museum and the Palm Harbor Library's joint effort to celebrate Florida History.

Also on Saturday, historical author Dr. Tom Rose will discuss how Palm Harbor's Buchanan family lived on what is now known as Indian Bluff Island from 1910 through the 1930's. Dr. Rose, who has written other local histories, will also discuss how to write local history.
2013 marks the 500th anniversary of Juan Ponce de Leon's arrival on Florida's east coast. You'll see more Viva Florida 500 educational programs like this throughout 2013.
