Senior Dining Center to Open at Former Location of Shoppe Around the Corner

The Shoppe Around the Corner, which was located at 1015 Omaha Circle in old downtown Palm Harbor, closed recently after an 8-year-run.

Senior citizens will soon be dining at the former location of the non-profit retail store, The Shoppe Around the Corner in old downtown Palm Harbor.

The retail store was operated by Neighborly Care Network and sold new home decor items, housewares, soaps, lotions and much more. Proceeds from the store went to the Neighborly Care Network, which has been providing health and wellness programs to seniors and their families for 45 years. The organization also operates Meals on Wheels.

"Retail's not doing that great. Some retails can make it through the lean times," said Neighborly Care Network's Sandy Narron, of the store.

Crews were inside the store last week, preparing for its transformation to a senior dining center. Meals on Wheels will also operate out of the facility.

The senior dining center will serve about 40-to-50 people for lunch Monday through Friday beginning around 11:45 a.m. Transportation to the dining center will also be provided for seniors who live in Palm Harbor. Reservations for lunch and transportation must be made in advance.

"We can get them in, get them a lunch and get them home," said Narron.

Seniors also have the option of driving themselves to the dining center.

Seniors can also enjoy other activities during their visits. Activities like bingo, educational presentations, entertainment and card games will also be provided.

"It's just a place to get out and socialize, so they're not by themselves all the time," said Narron.

The Neighborly Care Network is hoping to have the new dining center up and running in June.
