DOH-Escambia Issues Blue Green Algae Health Alert for Admiral Mason Park Pond (floridahealth.gov) — If you visit Admiral Mason Park Pond near Veterans Memorial Park in Pensacola, avoid contact with the water due to harmful blue-green algae toxins detected there. Health officials urge residents and pets to stay out of the pond, not drink or cook with the water, and report any related health symptoms or animal illnesses to state hotlines.

Navy, Congress assessing need, cost to fix aging NAS Pensacola infrastructure (pnj.com) — Major Navy and congressional leaders just toured Naval Air Station Pensacola to assess aging facilities and push for new federal funding, including $164 million for a consolidated dormitory. 3. Orlando exhibit to honor Black women's legacy in Florida, featuring 2 from Escambia County (weartv.com) — Two longtime Escambia County educators from Pensacola, Marie Young and Mamie Hixon, are being honored in a statewide exhibit celebrating Black women’s legacy in Florida. The Orlando show, “The Power of Her Presence,” opens Jan. 10 and runs through April 30, highlighting 56 influential women in education, public service, healthcare, arts, and more.
   

4. Pensacola florist turns lifelong love of flowers into film (wuwf.org) — Pensacola residents can soon see a hometown florist’s first documentary, “Follow the Flower,” when Mountainfilm on Tour comes to Pensacola Little Theatre on Jan. 17, 2026. The film tracks an Alaskan peony from farm to Pallin’s Fiore of Pensacola shop, highlighting the hard work behind beautiful bouquets and supporting local environmental nonprofits.
