1. DeSantis appoints 3 new trustees, reappoints 1 to PSC governing board (pnj.com) — Pensacola State College’s governing board is getting new leadership, with Gov. Ron DeSantis appointing three new trustees and reappointing neurosurgeon Dr. Troy Tippett. The new members include a former Pensacola High School coach, a Navy veteran active in Escambia-Pensacola ministries, and a homeschool educator with health-care leadership experience.
   

2. Rep. Patronis files bill to keep Blue Angels flying during future shutdowns (pnj.com) — Pensacola’s signature Blue Angels shows could be better protected under a new bill from Rep. Jimmy Patronis aimed at keeping the team flying here during future federal shutdowns. The proposal would let the Navy secure funding in advance so rehearsals and the Pensacola Homecoming Air Show aren’t grounded again like in 2025.
   

3. Navy under secretary, Rep. Patronis visit NAS Pensacola to assess infrastructure needs (weartv.com) — Top Navy leadership and Rep. Jimmy Patronis toured Naval Air Station Pensacola on Friday to see firsthand how aging hangars and other facilities need major upgrades. Base leaders highlighted century-old infrastructure and ongoing recovery from Hurricane Sally as they push for federal funding to improve conditions for sailors and trainees who pass through Pensacola.
   

4. Pensacola's annual Kids and Kritters Parade to feature mini floats, costumed pets (wkrg.com) — Families and pet lovers can get ready for the Kids and Kritters Parade on Pensacola Beach Jan. 24, with mini-floats, costumed pets, and free entry for people. The event starts at noon near the Pensacola Beach Visitor Information Center, includes kids’ karaoke and performances, and sets clear rules for costumes, throws, pets, and golf cart parking.
   

5. Former Florida tennis coach accused of child sex crimes across multiple US cities, including Greensboro (wkrg.com) — A former Florida tennis official who once coached players from Pensacola is facing multiple child sex crime charges tied to alleged abuse during tournament travel in the 1980s. Greensboro police say the coach and victims were from Pensacola but the alleged assaults occurred in several cities, with one victim only recently coming forward after seeking therapy.
