Fifth bulb added to 'Keep the Wreath Green' in Escambia County following house fire (wkrg.com) — A recent house fire near Pensacola has added a fifth red bulb to Escambia County’s “Keep the Wreath Green” fire-safety campaign, with Pensacola Fire Department assisting at the scene. Wreaths are displayed at Pensacola City Hall, Cordova Mall, and local fire stations to remind residents about fire risks, and city residents can call 850-436-5200 for smoke alarm information.
   

2. 44-year-old man charged with homicide for weekend shooting in Escambia County (weartv.com) — A Pensacola man has been jailed without bond on a homicide charge after a man was fatally shot in the face during a weekend incident near Briese and Jeffery lanes in Escambia County. Investigators say surveillance video, witness accounts, and a distinctive Bronco helped link the suspect to the scene as they continue building the case.

With the next drawing set for Saturday night and Powerball topping $1.25 billion, the piece breaks down odds, deadlines to claim prizes, and what Florida winners should know about disclosure rules.
   

4. Nonprofit spreads Christmas joy to hundreds of kids in need in Northwest Florida (wkrg.com) — A Pensacola-based nonprofit called Be the Miracle is working nonstop this week to make sure hundreds of Escambia and Santa Rosa County children wake up to Christmas gifts. Volunteers are packing Angel Tree bags with toys and essentials like socks and toothbrushes, partnering with groups such as Toys for Tots to reach students and foster kids who might otherwise go without.

Milton boys basketball staying successful with young team, new coach (pnj.com) — Milton High’s boys basketball team, one of the Pensacola area’s stronger programs, is thriving under new coach Matt Anderson with an 8-1 start and a recent win over Pensacola High. With senior leaders and a deep sophomore group, the Panthers are sharpening their defense and ball movement as they chase another deep postseason run that local fans will be watching closely.
