Skimming in the Rain at Sand Key Park
A pair of skimboarders took to Sand Key Park while Tropical Storm Andrea came through the Tampa Bay area Thursday.
With the gentle tapping of rain falling, Mike Merrill awoke Thursday knowing what he would be doing, finding some surf.
Well, with some help from his friend Sebastian Leonard, of Clearwater.
“If it wasn’t for Sebastian calling me, I probably wouldn’t have woken up,” Merrill, 24, of Largo, said.

As Tropical Storm Andrea made its way across the Tampa Bay area, the pair made their way to Sand Key Park around 8:30 a.m. to try to get some surfing in before work.
Turned out the swells were not enough to catch some waves, but were just right for skimboarding.
