Man Threatening To Kill Self Fatally Shot By Plant City Police

Police tried to talk him into giving up his gun and he aimed the gun at officers, forcing them to shoot him, according to the police report.

PLANT CITY, FL — A man threatening to commit suicide was fatally shot by Plant City police Sunday.

At 5:16 p.m., police were called to the parking lot of the U.S. Post Office at 2501 Walden Woods Drive where they found a man armed with a gun who was threatening to kill himself.

Police tried to talk him into giving up his gun and he aimed the gun at officers, forcing them to shoot him, according to the police report.

In keeping with Plant City Police Department policy, the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave pending a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation.
