Harbor Sounds Set to Rock the Harbor Next Week

A half dozen local artists will fill the waterfront with music at the annual festival next weekend.

Harbor Sounds, the annual music festival that showcases local artists and musicians, will take place next weekend at the Safety Harbor Marina.

The event, now in its 10th year, is one of the most popular outdoor festivals the city hosts, according to Safety HarborΒ Special Events Supervisor Joe Cooper.

"In one form or another, this event has been held for the past nine or 10 years," he said. "It used to be part of the Seafood Festival, but it got so popular, it branched out into its own event."

The festival takes place on Friday, Oct. 5 and Saturday, Oct. 6 and will feature half a dozen local groups, including Gatortooth and John Q., as well as national touring blues band Morleand & Arbuckle, which will close out the event on Saturday night.

In addition to the music, Cooper says there will be approximately 35 arts and crafts vendors, as well as a kids play area featuring inflatables, a rock climbing wall and a bungee jump.

There will also be plenty of food and drink available, with 20 food vendors serving everything from hot dogs to seafood.

It all makes for a great way to spend an early October afternoon or evening.

"Harbor Sounds is always the first weekend in October, and it kicks off the fall festival season in Safety Harbor," Cooper added. "It's a great time."
