Harbor Sounds Starts Tonight

The annual music festival promises to be a great time despite the downtown construction in Safety Harbor.

Harbor Sounds, the annual downtown festival that fills the Safety Harbor waterfront with music, kicks off Friday night at 5 and continues all day Saturday.

With road construction moving from south Bayshore Boulevard to the intersection of Main Street and Phillippe Parkway, Safety Harbor city officials want patrons to exercise caution when walking and driving around downtown this weekend; but they stress that the event itself will remain unaffected by the work.

City Manager Matt Spoor said via email:

For our Marina events, people park in and around downtown and walk to the Marina. Or they walk or ride to the marina. The closed road will actually help with foot traffic for the event on South Bayshore.

The sidewalks will remain open. Parking won’t be affected, but traffic flow could be confusing. It may actually help the pedestrians foot traffic at the event.

Joe Cooper, special events supervisor for the City of Safety Harbor, agreed with Spoor's assessment.

"Parking will be the same, on Main Street and side streets," Cooper said. "Access will be the same. It shouldn’t have an effect on the event."

So there's no reason not to head downtown this weekend and enjoy the first big festival of the fall season.

And if you take photos during the event, be sure to upload them to our Pics & Clips section and we'll show them off. Have fun!
