Harborside Studios Readies For Major Changes
The UPARC facility is about to undergo an extensive makeover, but not before hosting a couple of special events.
Harborside Studios is one of those places in town that always has something going on.
Whether its an art show, a fundraiser or just daily classes for the students, the UPARC facility on 5th Avenue North is usually a hub of activity.
That level of activity is what makes the news that the gallery will be undergoing an extensive makeover this spring both a blessing and a curse, according to director Michelle Ault.

“In April we are going to be relocating for a couple of months while we receive a complete facelift,” Ault said. “So we have to either sell or move everything out of here between now an then.”
The renovations will encompass everything from the roof to the floor; new bathrooms, doors, windows, lighting, a studio, offices, a conference room and a pair of on-site kilns will make the studio more modern as well as more functional.

But it’s not like Ault and her staff will just be packing boxes and preparing for the move in between now and then.
In fact, she’s got some big events slated to fill the time before they have to temporarily vacate the building.
“On Thursday, March 21 we will be having an open house fundraiser from 5 - 8 p.m. sponsored by John Treadwell of Clinical Advantage Skincare in Palm Harbor,” Ault said.
“He’s going to be doing Botox and fillers on site, and offering specials for treatments at his business. It should help him, and help us.”
The event will be partially catered by Harborside’s new neighbor, Woodstock on 5th, which will have its grand opening on 3rd Friday, March 15.
The opening coincides with the studio’s second event of the month – a 'psychedelic hippie experience' complete with groovy art and black lights - during 3rd Friday.
“We’re going to have a booth in front of Spencer's antique shop on Main Street promoting our show and Stann’s (Cherniack) business,” Ault said. “We’re really excited about them moving in.”
"It's a win-win situation for everybody."
Shortly after that, she will be packing up and heading to the UPARC main office until the studio renovations are complete.
“It should be fun,” she said. “Hectic, but fun.”
