Joey Biscotti Opens In Safety Harbor

Joey Biscotti, a rustic bakery specializing in a wide variety of sweet baked goods, has opened its first brick and mortar location in downtown Safety Harbor.

The shop, located at 839 Main St., is in the former home of another popular bakery, Peace, Love and Cake. 

Owners Joey DeBortoli and Steven Wright said they chose Safety Harbor for their first storefront when they realized the community was a perfect fit for their business.

“We’ve always dreamed of having a brick and mortar location, but we we’re never sure we’d do it,” Wright said from the Joey Biscotti booth at 3rd Friday. 

“After we saw the ad for this place and met with (former owners) Fran and Sarah … we realized this place was perfect for us.” 

"The community has already been so welcoming and appreciate of us," DeBortoli added. "The response so far has been terrific."

The bakery specializes in all things sweet including its trademark biscotti, which is made from an old DeBortoli family recipe. 

In addition to the crunchy coffee biscuits, the pair also makes brownies, cookies, pies, muffins, sweet rolls and cakes. 

As of right now they do not offer any breads or other baked goods, but that might change in the future if a partnership with a local bakery comes through. 

“We’re a full scale dessert bakery,” Wright said, “but everybody asks us if we have bread, too. I tell them we’re working on it.” 

DeBortoli got started by selling his family's trademark biscotti from his apartment in New York City before moving to Florida four years ago. 

Here he was selling his baked goods at area fresh markets while operating out of the Your Pro Kitchen in Largo for the last two years.

He said the Safety Harbor shop is the culmination of a lifelong dream.

“It’s scary but exhilarating to finally have my own shop,” he said.” 

“But we knew this opportunity was right for us, so there was no way we could turn it down.”
