Countryside saw their seniors play their final regular season home football game Friday night, and the whole team combined to send the 24 seniors out in style.

The Cougars waxed crosstown rival Clearwater, jumping out to a 31-7 halftime lead before cruising to a 44-7 victory.

But the win was bittersweet for the team, and especially the upperclassmen.

An investigation into the eligibility of their starting quarterback, Christian Strong, has left the team waiting to hear if some of its wins will be vacated, putting their postseason prospects in jeopardy.

"Obviously we hear things, but we just try to put it out of our minds and stay focused," senior wideout Joey Ganci said of the investigation. "I hope that we can make a deep run in the playoffs like we should."

Coach Jared Davis praised his players for their perseverance during this difficult time.

"It's a testament to the kids. They're great kids and they care about what we're doing out here, and it's really a testament to their character as young men."

Countryside (7-1) has two more regular season games left before a bye in the final week. Davis said a decision on their fate could come any day.

"The kids want to play football very very badly, and we want to give them that opportunity."
