Photo Gallery: Doggie Date Night

One month ago, City Park was turned into a winter wonderland for Snow Fest.

But on Friday night, the 7th Street facility went to the dogs. Literally.

Hundreds of dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds, with their owners in tow, packed the park for the second annual Doggie Date Night, a family-friendly event sponsored by the city.

Organizer Christine McWilliams was thrilled with the turnout for the free event, which featured vendors, games, an obstacle course and a play area for the pooches.

"This was amazing. Definitely bigger than last year, possibly doubled," she said. Unofficial estimates pegged last year's attendance at 100-150 dogs and owners.

For more than two hours, the dogs and their masters frolicked through the park. Vendors sold all sorts of pet-related materials, from homemade treats to LED-lighted collars.

"We didn't do it last year because we weren't sure of how big the event would be," Holly Kelley of Glow Pets pet collars said. "But we decided to come this year, and it was better than I expected."

After a full day of preparing and running the event, recreation department official Katie Pounds could only muster a few words to describe the turnout.

"It was wag-o-licious. It was droolable. It was wag-o-riffic. Can you tell I'm exhausted!?" she said.

McWilliams was more to the point.

"It was a huge success."
