Safety Harbor City Commission Meeting Tonight

Annexation issues dominate the agenda in the first meeting since the Firmenich property proposal was approved

For the first time in many months, the Firmenich property issue will not be the most talked about item on the City Commission agenda.

After the commission passed the ordinance related to the Richman Group's proposal to build a 246-unit apartment complex on the citrus center property by a vote of 3-2 at the previous meeting, tonight's session will deal with other items affecting the community.

Dominating the agenda are a number of annexation requests as well as a decision on the zoning of the property located at the northeast corner of Cedar Street and McMullen Booth Road.

According to records, the city originally entered into a development agreement in March of 2010 to allow the construction of a 22,943-square-foot, two-story office complex on the parcel, with a provision stating that "failure to timely fulfill the developer's obligations may serve as basis for termination of the agreement by the City".

On Dec. 17, 2012, the commission voted to terminate the agreement, records show, based on the finding that the developer's obligations were not fulfilled in a timely manner; on Feb 13, 2013, the Planning & Zoning Board unanimously voted to return the property to its former land use and zoning designations pursuant to the agreement.
