Show Us Your Yard Art: New Years Twinkie

A bunch of fun-loving Harborites came up with an original idea to ring in the New Year.

As everyone prepares to head back to work and school tomorrow following the long winter break, I realized this would be the last holiday post of the season.

So I thought it was fitting to cap off the season with this photo of, well, a New Years Twinkie.

Yes, a bunch of funloving, talented Harborites teamed up to count down to the New Year in style - with a Styrofoam Twinkie that descended from a Mayan pyramid at midnight at the 8th Avenue Pub.

I'd better let local artist Stacy Roth explain.

"My husband John and our friend Ty came up with that idea. I will have John explain it to you," she said.

Ah, okay. John?

"Ty Crawford and I built the pyramid and Twinkie (with help from Stacy and Kumpa) to continue our tradition started with the New Years Eve Ball Drop last year at the Pub," he wrote.

"Before midnight, all anyone could see was the "Mayan Pyramid"; at midnight, we raised the pyramid to reveal the Twinkie," he added. "Just our spoof on the Mayan calendar "End of the World" and the "End of the Twinkie."

Of course! Now it makes sense!

Actually it does make sense, for Safety Harbor: a bunch of fun, talented people who love the community collaborating to celebrate a special occasion while spoofing a couple of semi-serious subjects. Gotta love it!

Thanks for providing the final smile of the 2012 holiday season, guys!
