You’Nique Boutique Lives Up To Its Name

Walking into the You’Nique Boutique is like opening the proverbial box of chocolates – you never know what you’re going to see. 

The Main Street shop, which opened on 3^rd Friday in September, is an offshoot of a Clearwater ministry thrift store; it features an eclectic mix of repurposed and reclaimed art, as well as antiques and unique collectibles. 

“We sell vintage clothing, shoes, telescopes, lamps, jewelry, birdcages, art – there’s nothing we don’t have,” co-owner Vicky Hendry said. 

“We have over 800 items. There’s things here you won’t see anywhere else.” 

Hendry and her partners, Josh Vellucci and Randy Cohen, had to search for a storefront when their artwork outgrew the thrift shop that is affiliated with the Center of Hope ministry on Roosevelt Boulevard. 

The trio combine to turn old items into new and unique pieces of art, with Randy handling painting duties while Josh is responsible for assembling the pieces. 

“We come up with the ideas, and Josh makes it happen,” Hendry said. 

So far, reaction to the shop has been positive, especially after exposing people to their goods at September's 3^rd Friday and Harbor Sounds last week. 

“The people who have come in and seen us in town have been impressed,” Vellucci, who grew up and spent most of his life in Safety Harbor, said. “With all the events in Safety Harbor, we expect things to pick up in a short amount of time.” 

Hendry stressed that even with the massive amount of merchandise in the store now, there will always be new items coming in regularly. She said it’s the kind of place where you will see something different every time you visit. 

“You’ve just got to come in and check it out. It’s like walking into Narnia.”
