SARASOTA, FL — Two young brothers, ages 3 and 5, were airlifted from the scene of a bicycle crash Thursday after they were catapulted from an improvised wagon being pulled by their father.

The incident happened just before 1:30 p.m. at 17th Street and U.S. 301 as the rear wheels of the wagon crashed into a curb, causing the wagon to flip over, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

The agency's Genevieve Judge said the boys were taken from the scene by separate medical helicopters to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St Petersburg. They were not wearing seat belts or helmets.
