38 Florida Counties Report 211 New Coronavirus Deaths

38 of Florida's 67 counties reported a total of 211 new deaths from the coronavirus Thursday.

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Thirty-eight of Florida's 67 counties reported a total of 211 new deaths from the coronavirus Thursday as health officials reported another 2,583 confirmed cases of the virus.

Counties reporting new deaths include Alachua, Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Citrus, Collier, Columbia, Miami-Dade, Dixie, Duval, Escambia, Gadsden, Gilchrist, Hernando, Hillsborough, Jackson, Lake, Lee, Leon, Manatee, Marion, Martin, Okaloosa, Orange, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Santa Rosa, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter, Volusia, Wakulla, Walton and Washington

The daily total compares to 200 new deaths Wednesday, 44 new deaths Tuesday, 22 new deaths Monday, 38 new deaths Sunday, 61 new deaths Saturday, 100 new deaths Friday, 151 new deaths Thursday (state health officials reported 149) and 128 new deaths last Wednesday (health officials reported 127).

The total number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Florida rose to 654,731 Thursday, up from 652,148 a day earlier.

Florida's numbers compare to 749,100 cases and 14,015 deaths in California; 668,128 cases and 13,925 deaths in Texas as well as 441,911 cases and 33,019 deaths in New York, according to information compiled by Johns Hopkins.

Florida health officials reported the state's 29th day of daily positivity under 10 percent. The daily positivity rate is calculated by taking the number of people who test PCR-or antigen-positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day, excluding people who have previously tested positive.

Florida's overall positivity rate, which is cumulative, was at 13.5 percent as of Wednesday based on 4,838,264 total tests.

Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 38,917cases of the virus and 579 deaths while Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 37,473 cases and 401 deaths.

Sarasota County, which includes the city of Sarasota, reported 7,500 cases of the virus and 225 deaths. Manatee County, which includes Bradenton, reported 10,772 cases and 270 deaths. Pinellas County reported 20,655 cases of the virus and 697 deaths while Pasco County reported 8,411 cases and 189 deaths. Polk County, which includes Lakeland, reported 18,121 cases of the virus and 483 deaths.

The total number of deaths in Florida rose to 12,326 on Thursday, up from 12,115 a day earlier. Florida's most recent one-day record of 276 reported deaths was set on Aug. 11. Health officials reported another 156 deaths involving non-Florida residents who died in Florida.

The state reported 40,807 hospitalizations, up from 40,517 hospitalizations, a day earlier. That represents an increase of 290 new hospitalizations over the previous day.

State health officials also reported a total of 2,902 current hospitalization with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19, down from 3,076 current hospitalizations a day earlier.
