666 Grams Of Cocaine Found At Sarasota Apartment: Police

SARASOTA, FL — A Sarasota man was arrested Friday morning after more than 666 grams of cocaine in both rock and powder form were found in his 8th Street apartment, authorities said.

Other items found in Desmond L. Smith’s apartment include $2,800 in cash, 204 grams of marijuana and a digital scale, court documents with his name and photos, Sarasota police said in a news release.

Two forks, a white plastic cup and a glass measuring cup in the apartment also tested positive for cocaine, police said.

Smith, 33, an eight-time convicted felon, was the only person at the apartment detectives arrived with a search warrant.

He was charged with trafficking in cocaine over 400 grams, possession of marijuana with intent to sell/deliver and manufacturing cocaine, all felonies. He also faces the misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Smith was on active felony probation for retail theft of more than $750 at the time of his arrest, police said.

He remains in Sarasota County Jail on a $121,000 bond as of Tuesday morning.
