5 Things: Sweet Tooth for the Valentine
Find some special cupcakes and doughnuts at area bakeries for Valentine's Day.

1. There are plenty of places to get some Valentine's Day sweets. Here are a couple to check out. on Siesta Drive , to get in last-minute orders, including $2.50 or less per cupcake. also has heart-shaped donuts. The Cupid’s Choice Donut is a heart-shaped doughnut filled with Bavarian Kreme, topped with strawberry icing and a festive mix of pink, white and red heart-shaped sprinkles. The new Chocolate Heart Donut is a chocolate frosted heart-shaped doughnut with vanilla buttercreme filling, topped with chocolate chips.
2. and at Asolo Reperotory Theatre. Sobule earned her commercial break in the '90s, with hits from "I Kissed a Girl" and "Supermodel," but has collaborated and written for various projects since. The concert starts at 8 p.m., and a reception follows. Tickets are still available.
3. Gen. Stanley McChrystal will be in town today for the Ringling College Library Town Hall Series at . McChrystal is the former commander of U.S. and international forces in Afghanistan.

4. Utilities customers will see something new included on their City of Sarasota utility bill this month: a matrix bar code called a QR code. QR (Quick Response) codes are used with smart phones and tablets using QR code reader applications to take them to a website instead of typing in an address. “Using a QR code is a great way to market the City,” said District 3 City Commissioner Shannon Snyder. “Many people have smartphones now. Just by scanning the code, they’ll have quick, easy access to all kinds of information about the City of Sarasota.”
5. The public is invited to contribute ideas for the design of a new Gulf Gate Library, at a community session from 4:30-7 p.m., Feb. 23, at St. Andrew United Church of Christ, 6908 Beneva Road, Sarasota. The new library will be built on the site of the existing building, at 7112 Curtiss Ave., which opened in December 1983. The new library will be a two-story building with about 22,000 square feet.
