5 Things To Know: Sarasota Highland Games is Saturday

2. More than 500 middle and high school students representing five counties will converge on the Bradenton campus of State College of Florida on Saturday,  when SCF and the Manatee County School District host the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) District 18 Leadership Conference. More than 20 middle and high schools from DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, Manatee and Sarasota counties will compete in a variety of business-related contests including impromptu speaking, entrepreneurship, digital video, job interview, and management decision making. Students who win competitions at the District level will advance to compete at the FBLA State Conference to be held in Orlando in April.

5. Straight from Washington, D.C., The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” Woodwind Quintet will perform in a free concert at at 7 p.m tonight. Accompanying the Quintet on piano will be Dr. Joseph Holt, Artist-in-Residence for Faith Lutheran and Artistic Director of Gloria Musicae.  Holt retired in 2009 from The U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant, and was principal pianist for the US Army Chorus for 20 years. The concert is open to the public; no tickets are required.
