5 Things To Know: When Will Costco Open In Sarasota?

Costco announced its opening date for Westfield Sarasota Square Mall store.

Update to Item No. 1: Costco will open Aug. 17, according to the Westfield Sarasota Square Mall.

1. Would a week worth of waiting torture you, waiting for

Costco lists on its website of opening store dates that its Westfield Sarasota Square Mall will open Aug. 17, a Friday, but a Security and Exchange Commissions filing made May 24 says the store will open eight days later, Aug. 25, a Saturday, The Herald-Tribune first reported.

Also on Tuesday, Sarasota Square Mall's Facebook page posted a response to a shopper's inquiry saying that an "exact date has yet to be announced" and that Costco would open sometime this summer.

So as of right now, it's not clear which Friday Costco will open, but we figure if it's not until Aug. 25 it still won't prevent someone showing up and trying to shop there on Aug. 17.

2. You might or might not recognize the name Nora Ephron and wondering what she has to do with Sarasota. The playwright and screenwriter of When Harry Met Sally died Tuesday, and she was also the co-writer for Love, Loss and What I Wore with her sister Delia Ephron, and the play is being staged at Asolo Rep through July. Asolo is one of the first theaters in the country that was granted to independently produce the play. Find out more about .

3. Tuesday we told you how you s during a storm because you think you're saving them. 4. Given this crazy week, we tend to forget that Sarasota is searching for a new city manager. Get to know the four finalists for Sarasota city manager at a community reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 29 at the  where candidates will be able to chat with residents in a casual setting.

The following day, Saturday, June 30, the finalists will interview with the full City Commission and the Citizens Panel 8 a.m. – 12:50 p.m. at . The meeting is open to all. The candidates also will meet with the city's Department Heads the same day.
