54-Year-Old Man Killed Riding Bicycle In Sarasota County
A 54-year-old North Port man was killed Sunday night when he was hit by a car while riding a bicycle along U.S. 41.

SARASOTA, FL — A 54-year-old North Port man was killed Sunday night when he was hit by a car while riding a bicycle along U.S. 41.
Florida Highway Patrol said the incident happened around 9:10 p.m. north of Rockley Boulevard as the bicycle was being ridden in the northbound outside lane against traffic.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 35-year-old Steven M. Terrell, also of North Port, who was driving a 2010 Honda Accord.

"The pedal-cyclist was thrown from the bicycle and came to final rest facing in a southwesterly direction on the outside grass, north of the paved shoulder," according to Florida Highway Patrol. "The bicycle came to rest facing west on the paved shoulder."
A Florida Highway Patrol spokesman did not immediately identify the bicyclist who was killed pending notification of the next of kin.

The spokesman said alcohol was not suspected in the case of the driver of the Honda. The spokesman did not know if the person who was killed had been drinking.
Charges were pending, according to the Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson.
