NORTH PORT, FL — A 7-foot-gator recently “moseyed on up into a garage” in the Gran Paradiso neighborhood in Wellen Park’s West Villages Improvement District, the North Port Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

“It's Florida and it's that time of the year. Please make sure to be cautious around your property and don't leave garage doors open,” the agency wrote. “You never know what could come in or what could go out for that matter.”

Gators are usually more active during mating season. Courtship usually begins in early April, with mating taking place in May and June, according to the FWC website.

Incubation of their eggs takes from 6o to 65 days and hatching takes place in late August or early September. Even after the eggs hatch, gators remain territorial over their young and active.
