72 New Coronavirus Deaths In Florida; Tests Show Improvement

Twenty of Florida's 67 counties reported a total of 72 new deaths. even as testing showed improvement, according to Gov. Ron DeSantis.

SARASOTA, FL — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday the state has experienced its lowest number of one-day positive test results since the coronavirus outbreak began even as 20 of Florida's 67 counties reported a total of 72 new deaths.

"Yesterday the state of Florida reported the most number of test results since we started this," the governor said Tuesday at a testing site in Sarasota County. "We got 23,884 test results. Out of that massive batch, it only yielded 589 new Florida cases." That amounts to 2.4 percent positive test results for that day.

The number of deaths climbed to 1,471 in Florida on Tuesday asMiami-Dade County reported 29 new deaths. Broward County reported seven more deaths. Palm Beach County reported nine new deaths.

Hillsborough County reported three new deaths as did Lee County and Collier County. Manatee County reported two more deaths as did Pinellas County, Putnam County and Polk County.

Charlotte County reported one more death as did Escambia County, Hendry County, Lake County, Madison County, Osceola County, Sarasota County, Suwannee County, Volusia County and Flagler County.

Overall, Florida health officials reported a total of 37,439 positive test results out of 465,691 tests that had been administered as of Tuesday. That amounts to about an 8 percent positive test result for the state.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the state rose by 542 over the previous 24-hour period while the number of hospitalizations rose to 6,330.

Miami-Dade reported 13,224 confirmed cases as of Tuesday, more than any other county. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 5,492 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes West Palm Beach, reported 3,390 cases. Those three counties account for some 60 percent of all Florida cases.

Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 1,324 cases as of Tuesday. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 1,446 cases.
