In the interest of public safety, Sarasota County Parks and Recreation has closed the Wharf Road dock at the west end of Wharf Road in Sarasota.
The closure is necessitated by deteriorating decking conditions. Construction of a new replacement structure is anticipated to begin following the issuing of all necessary permits. It is anticipated the dock will be reopened in early 2013.
In addition to the dock construction, a new sloped canoe/kayak launch/landing is being added to the northern shoreline.

Funding for this entire park improvement project is through a West Coast Inland Navigation District (WCIND) Grant.
