Armed Homeowner Scared Bank Robbery Suspect: Deputies

Sarasota County deputies say an armed homeowner confronted a person wanted in connection with a Wednesday bank robbery.

SARASOTA, FL — An accused bank robber is in custody after a Sarasota resident confronted the suspect at gunpoint and helped lead deputies to the person’s location Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Florida Central Credit Union, 3451 Cattlemen Road, around 1:47 p.m. May 3 after receiving a robbery report. Patrol and K9 units were able to track the suspect northbound to a nearby neighborhood.

As deputies were looking for the accused robber, the sheriff’s office received a call about a suspicious person in the 2800 block of Indianwood Way.

“A homeowner attempted to confront the suspect at gunpoint,” the agency reported in an email to media. The suspect took off, but deputies were able to bring the person into custody shortly after receiving the call.

Further information about the robbery and the person accused is not yet available.
