Art Reception, Yappy Hour and More Weekend Fun in Sarasota

Opening Reception at Art Uptown Gallery: The gallery, at 1367 Main St., Sarasota, will host the opening reception for its Fifth Annual Dog Days Juried Art Show, featuring both 2D and 3D artwork from local area artists.  The reception is from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2 and is open to the public.

Friday Night with Paul Galestro & Democracy: The local band brings its Caribbean-flavored reggae and R&B sounds to the Five O'clock Club, 1930 Hillview St., Sarasota, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2.

'Sharknado' on the Big Screen: The made-for-TV, so-bad-it’s-good SyFy channel movie that became a social media sensation is coming to Hollywood Stadium 20, 1993 Main St., Sarasota, for a one-night-only screening at midnight Friday, Aug. 6. 

Summer Sizzle at WestCoast ChurchThis free back-to-school bash for the community will include food provided by Outback Steakhouse, water slides, bounce houses, games, kids crafts, music and a business expo. It begins 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3. The church is at 11750 U.S. 301 N. in Parrish. 

Yappy Hour 2013 at Clayton's Siesta Grille: The benefit for Satchel's Last Resort Animal Shelter & Sanctuary will include a buffet, unlimited beer and wine, live entertainment, a raffle and a silent auction.
