Boater’s Death Off Caspersen Beach Under Investigation

VENICE, FL — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered in a boat on waters off Caspersen Beach just before noon on Monday.

According to the agency, a distress call came in from a boat at 11:59 a.m. May 8. Multiple agencies responded to that call, including the sheriff’s office, the Sarasota County Fire Department, Venice Police and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Officials say two people were brought to shore from the boat. One of the people, a man in his 40s, was dead, an email from the sheriff's office.

The cause of the man’s death remains under investigation. Authorities are not releasing his name pending next of kin notification.
