Body Found Near Sarasota Hyatt

SARASOTA, FL — The body of a man was found by a boater near the Hyatt Regency Thursday morning in Sarasota. Police were attempting to determine what led to the man's death.

"The Medical Examiner’s Office has taken custody of the body to determine the cause of death," explained Genevieve Judge of the Sarasota Police Department. "Detectives are treating this as an unattended death investigation at this time."

Judge said that detectives were working with the Sarasota Police Department's Victim Advocate to notify the man's next of kin as of Thursday afternoon. The man was described as an adult black male.

She said the body was discovered shortly before 9 a.m. off Sunset Drive. The boater who made the discovery called 9-1-1 and remained on the scene to meet with investigators and emergency medical personnel.
