County Government Starts Fraud Hotline

Suspect government waste or fraud? Now you can call a hotline or mail Sarasota County Government to have someone look into it.

officials have launched a toll-free hotline for anyone to call in suspected government fraud, waste and abuse.

The new number is 855-506-0304. People who call are led through voice-prompted instructions and can speak to a person anytime, including holidays.

"We must do everything we can to prevent fraud, waste and abuse in county government," said County Administrator Randall Reid. "The hotline also provides a way for the public and employees to anonymously report suspected fraud without any retaliation."

The move comes after a series of embarassments for the county stemming from the events that led to the  and the to having a newly hired an error and the latest — a vendor

The county is continuing to overhaul its purchasing program and has since restructured and rebid the mowing contracts to move on from the past.

If people do not want to use the hotline, they may report suspected fraud, waste and abuse directly to the Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller.
