Cuban Competitor Reported Missing At World Rowing Championships In Sarasota

Sarasota County sheriff's detectives don't suspect foul play, but the athlete has officially been reported missing.

SARASOTA, FL - Licet Hernandez-Licea, who is competing in the 2017 World Rowing Championships at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, has been reported missing and Sarasota County sheriff’s detectives are currently attempting to locate her, the sheriff’s office said in a press release. Based on a preliminary investigation to include email correspondence from early Thursday morning indicating her withdrawal from the event, detectives do not suspect foul play.

The 24-year-old athlete from the Cuban rowing team did not show up for her morning competition just after 1 p.m. Thursday and was reported missing at that time. Hernandez-Licea was last seen Wednesday evening around 9:00 p.m.

Though detectives don’t suspect foul play, in an abundance of caution, they are working with state and federal authorities and have entered Hernandez-Licea as a missing person.
