THE VILLAGES, FL — As if we haven't seen enough strange things in the past couple of months, pharmacy giant CVS announced it was teaming up with UPS to begin making drone deliveries next week to Florida seniors.

UPS Flight Forward, the delivery company's commercial drone delivery group, will take off with prescriptions from a CVS pharmacy and land at The Villages, the largest retirement community in the U.S. The Villages has more than 135,000 residents.

"This drone delivery service provides an innovative method to reach some of our customers," said Jon Roberts, executive vice president and chief operating officer of CVS Health.

The first drone delivery will launch May 5 and fly less than half a mile to a ground vehicle that will complete the delivery. The service will use Matternet’s M2 drones.

UPS said its drones offer a fast delivery option while supporting social-distancing. CVS Pharmacy is also offering free ground delivery of prescriptions and essential products through May 31.
